There are several questions that you as a researcher can ask on a daily basis that will help improve your ability to move your new product development projects forward faster.
The basis for these questions is to make sure that you are working on the most important tasks first, are minimizing elapsed time to complete tasks, and are communicating effectively with others so there are no downtime lapses because of poorly timed hand-offs.
It is best if all team members develop this proactive approach throughout the product development process. But even if you are the only one on your team to use these questions, you will still see results in your own work. This may inspire others to follow your lead.

* What activities are you working on now?
* Should you be working on each of these yet?
* Which of these activities are most critical?
* How much of your work can you parallel process?
* Is there a way to do this work faster?
* How can you minimize your time on the critical path?
* Whose help will you need soon and will they be available?
* How can you communicate better to make sure nothing is being missed?
Faster product development is about more than just keeping your head down and grinding out experiment after experiment. You also need to assess and interact with the current environment, including making changes and adjustments to your plans.
If your project were a submarine moving through the water, the above questions would be the equivalent to an up-periscope to deliberately look around and see what changes you need to make on your development path. Just like a submarine, you can expect to make adjustments time and again and to need to have constant vigilance around better ways of doing you work.
